The wedding that made me decide to move here.
In 2024 I played my first wedding in Mallorca. It was my brother-in-law's wedding — the most honest stress test I could have picked.
Christina and Arsen married on a finca in the island's southwest, in the area around Andratx. 80 guests, and the celebration ran a whole weekend. The two of them live in Mallorca — and they are family: my sister-in-law and brother-in-law. I didn't charge a cent that day. I wanted to know what it is like to play on this island. And in front of your own family, you embarrass yourself more thoroughly than in front of any paying guest.
Their biggest worry wasn't the music. It was whether everything would work. At an island wedding almost everything travels: guests, vendors, equipment. Every piece that tips can tip the day.
So we planned everything in advance, on video calls: the agenda, the time slots, the music for every part — and the first ten songs after the first dance. I go through those with every couple, because they decide whether the floor fills or empties.
The day itself ran along the agenda without a single point of friction. For the aperitif I played groovy house into the low sun. I knew some of the guests — a home game: I knew what to play, and when, to bring them in. From there I built the arc, through dinner, towards the first dance.
The moment
The first song after the first dance: "Levels" by Avicii. Within the first bars the floor was full — not gradually, but instantly.
That is exactly what you plan the first ten songs for: the party starter landed, and the evening tipped in the right direction.
The floor stayed full until the last song, with hardly any fluctuation. Through peak time I kept my harmonic mixing going — genre blocks, no gaps for the floor to empty. At the end, two beaming people stood on the dancefloor, and I knew: I want to do this more often on this island.
Three years later, I am moving here.
